Breville Review: Are the Espresso Machines Worth the Money in 2026?
Breville makes the home espresso machines most Americans start with, but the warranty length varies by model in ways that matter, and buying direct comes with a strict 30-day return process.

The verdict in 60 seconds
- The Bambino Plus and Barista Pro are the strongest machines in the range, and both carry a two-year limited warranty on Breville’s product pages.
- The $699.95 Barista Express gets only a one-year warranty, while the cheaper Bambino Plus gets two, which changes which machine we would buy.
- Returns are accepted within 30 days of receipt, only for appliances bought directly from Breville USA, in new condition with original packaging.
- You need a Return Authority number before shipping anything back, and that number expires 14 calendar days after it is issued.
- Trustpilot reviews skew positive, but the one-star pile is dominated by slow repairs, dropped calls and cases closed without an answer.
The Beacon Score
Excellent, well-designed machines priced at a premium, with a support operation that too many owners describe as slow once something breaks.

What we'd buy

the Bambino® Plus $499.95
Small, fast and the easiest route to good milk drinks at home.
The Bambino Plus heats in about three seconds, according to Breville, and its automatic steam wand lets you choose milk temperature and texture, which removes the hardest skill in home espresso. It takes up less counter space than a toaster oven and carries a two-year limited warranty. It has no grinder, so you need either pre-ground coffee or a separate burr grinder, which adds to the real cost. On Breville’s own site it averaged above four stars across more than a thousand reviews.
- Best for
- Latte and cappuccino drinkers with little counter space
- Weak spot
- No built-in grinder, so budget for one

the Barista Pro™ $849.95
The best balance of built-in grinder, speed and warranty in the lineup.
The Barista Pro pairs a conical burr grinder with 30 settings and the same quick ThermoJet heating as the Bambino line, plus a display that shows grind setting and shot time. It held the highest average rating of the machines we checked on Breville’s site, and it carries a two-year limited warranty. The steam wand is manual, so milk takes practice. Owners of Breville’s grinder machines report occasional jams or drifting grind settings, which is the usual weak point of all-in-one designs.
- Best for
- Buyers who want grinder and machine in one box
- Weak spot
- Built-in grinder is the part most likely to fail

the Barista Express® Impress $799.95
Assisted tamping takes the guesswork out of dosing for beginners.
The Impress uses a lever that tamps with a fixed force and a small twist, then adjusts the next dose based on the last one, so new owners get consistent pucks without buying scales and tampers. It carries a two-year warranty, a year more than the plain Barista Express. It still uses the older Thermocoil heating, so the wait between shots and steaming is longer than on the Barista Pro. For someone who has never made espresso, the guidance is worth the money.
- Best for
- First-time espresso makers who want guardrails
- Weak spot
- Slower heat-up than the ThermoJet machines

the Smart Oven® Air Fryer Pro $399.95
A large countertop oven that replaces a toaster, an air fryer and often the main oven.
This is the Breville many households use more than any espresso machine. It offers 13 cooking functions, fits a 14 pound turkey by Breville’s measure, and had more than two thousand reviews averaging well above four stars on Breville’s site. It is large and needs clear space around it. It was out of stock on the US site when we checked, and one-star Trustpilot reviews include a door mechanism failing just outside warranty on a related model.
- Best for
- Families who want one appliance for most weeknight cooking
- Weak spot
- Bulky, and stock was unavailable when we checked

the Bambino® $299.95
The cheapest way into Breville espresso, with a manual steam wand.
The base Bambino shares the fast heating and 54mm portafilter of the Plus but drops the automatic milk texturing, so you steam by hand. That makes it the better pick for people who mostly drink straight espresso or want to learn latte art. Breville gives it only a one-year warranty, half of the Plus, and its site rating was the lowest of the machines we checked. It also needs a separate grinder, which narrows the savings.
- Best for
- Straight espresso drinkers on a tighter budget
- Weak spot
- One-year warranty and the weakest owner ratings
What we'd pass on
the Barista Express®
This is the machine that made Breville famous, and it still makes good espresso. But at $699.95 it carries only a one-year warranty on Breville’s product page, while the Impress adds assisted tamping and a two-year warranty for $100 more. Owner reports of grinder problems cluster on all-in-one machines like this one, which makes the shorter coverage harder to accept.
the Oracle® Jet
The Oracle Jet automates grinding, dosing, tamping and milk, and it is impressive on paper. At $1,999.95, though, you are paying for the most moving parts in the range, and several recent one-star Trustpilot reviews describe premium machines stuck in long repair cycles. Spend less on a Barista Pro and a good grinder, or buy from a retailer with longer return terms.

Still wondering?
How long is the Breville warranty on espresso machines?
It depends on the model, and the general warranty page will not tell you. Breville lists the length in each product page’s specifications. When we checked, the Bambino Plus, Barista Pro and Barista Express Impress were listed at two years, and the Bambino and Barista Express at one year.
Can I return a Breville bought from Amazon or a store to Breville?
No. Breville’s return policy says it accepts returns only for appliances bought directly from Breville USA and cannot take back machines purchased from other retailers or resellers. Return those to the store. Warranty claims are different: those go through Breville support with proof of purchase from an authorized seller.
Do I need to register my Breville for the warranty?
No. Breville’s warranty page says registration is not required, but you need the original receipt or a copy, plus the model and serial number from the sticker on the machine. Registration does unlock the Breville+ app recipes for the smart ovens.
Where we land
Breville still makes the home espresso machines we would point most people toward, and the Bambino Plus and Barista Pro are the standouts. Check the warranty line before you buy, because it is not uniform, and the Barista Express gives up a year of coverage. Buying direct means a strict 30-day, authorization-first return process and a support team that owners rate unevenly. Keep your receipt and register the serial number.
