Cotopaxi Review: Are the Bright Packs Worth the Price?
Cotopaxi sells loud, recycled-fabric travel packs and jackets with a do-good story attached. The Allpa packs earn their reputation, but the return fee and a narrowly defined warranty deserve a look first.

Sixty-second verdict
- The Allpa travel packs are the reason to shop here, with suitcase-style opening, laptop sleeves and carry-on sizing.
- Returns are allowed for 60 days, generous by industry standards, but a $6 fee comes out of mailed refunds unless you return in a store.
- The lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects only, and Cotopaxi defines lifetime as the product’s realistic functional life rather than forever.
How Cotopaxi scored
Well-designed travel packs and a long return window, offset by a return fee, a narrow warranty, and support complaints that outweigh the praise.

What we'd buy from Cotopaxi

Allpa 35L Travel Pack $230
The carry-on travel pack the brand is known for, now in recycled fabric.
The redesigned Allpa 35L keeps the suitcase-style, full-wrap zipper on the main compartment and adds air-mesh shoulder straps, a stretch bottle pocket, and a pass-through strap that slides over a roller-bag handle. It has a 15-inch laptop sleeve and a water-resistant coated shell, and Cotopaxi suggests it for trips of three to five days. The product page lists it at 22 by 12 by 10 inches and nearly three pounds, which is heavy for a 35-liter pack before you add anything.
- Best for
- Carry-on-only trips of up to five days
- Weak spot
- Nearly three pounds empty

Allpa 35L Travel Pack - Del Día $230
The same pack in one-of-a-kind colors cut from leftover fabric.
Del Día versions use deadstock and remnant fabric, so every pack is a one-off, and Cotopaxi says the features match the standard Allpa 35L. Oddly, the Del Día page lists a lighter weight than the standard model, which is worth noticing if ounces matter to you. The trade-off with any one-off is the warranty: Cotopaxi replaces defective items with the same product, and when that is out of stock you get store credit, not a refund.
- Best for
- Travelers who want a pack nobody else has
- Weak spot
- A warranty claim may end in store credit

Batac 24L Daypack - Del Día $90
A light, unstructured daypack that fits under an airplane seat.
The Batac 24L is Cotopaxi’s bestselling daypack and, at 17 ounces, light enough to stuff in a suitcase as a trip daypack. It has a main zip compartment, a front vertical-zip pocket, two mesh bottle pockets, and a padded sleeve for most 15-inch laptops, and Cotopaxi says it works as a personal item. It is deliberately unstructured, with no frame and minimal padding, so it slumps when half-empty and is not comfortable with heavy loads.
- Best for
- Day trips, light hikes, and travel days
- Weak spot
- Unstructured, so heavy loads carry poorly

Fuego Down Jacket $290
An 800-fill down jacket with a recycled shell that packs into its own pocket.
The Fuego is Cotopaxi’s signature insulated jacket: 800-fill responsibly sourced down, a 100 percent recycled nylon shell with a DWR finish, two zippered hand pockets, two interior dump pockets, and an adjustable hem. It stuffs into its internal pocket for travel. The shell fabric is light, and lightweight down shells snag on brush and campfire sparks, which the warranty specifically excludes. We saw the men’s version at $290 when we checked.
- Best for
- Cold travel days and camp evenings
- Weak spot
- Light shell; field damage is not covered
Not these
Coraza Suitcase - Carry On
Cotopaxi’s hard-sided carry-on costs $295 and offers recycled polycarbonate, packing cubes, replaceable wheels and TSA locks. None of that is unusual among hard-shell carry-ons, and luggage specialists offer longer track records at similar or lower prices. Cotopaxi’s strength is soft packs; buy the Allpa 35L instead and keep the flexibility of a backpack.

What people ask about Cotopaxi
Does Cotopaxi charge for returns?
Yes, for mailed returns. Cotopaxi deducts a $6 return shipping fee from the refund. If you bought on cotopaxi.com and live near a Cotopaxi store, returning in person avoids the fee; bring the order confirmation. The window is 60 days from purchase, and items must have tags attached and be unwashed.
Is the Cotopaxi warranty really lifetime?
Only in a specific sense. Cotopaxi replaces items with manufacturing defects for the product’s lifetime, but its warranty page defines that lifetime as an estimate of how long the item can realistically keep working, based on materials, use and age. Zippers, buckles and fabrics are expected to wear out, and field damage is excluded.
What is a Del Día product?
Del Día items are made from remnant and deadstock fabric left over from other production, so each one has a one-of-a-kind color combination. Cotopaxi says Del Día packs match the standard versions in features and function. Each color combination is unique, and a defective one-off may be replaced with store credit.
Can I cancel a Cotopaxi order?
Cotopaxi says it cannot edit orders once placed. If you contact support within 12 hours it will try to cancel, but it does not guarantee it. Once an order ships, you need to start a return instead, which means the $6 fee for a mailed return.
Our call
The Allpa 35L is a well-thought-out travel pack and the main reason to shop at Cotopaxi; the Batac daypack is a cheap, light companion. The rest of the deal is less generous than the cheerful branding suggests: a $6 return fee, a warranty that defines lifetime narrowly, and support that many reviewers say goes quiet. Buy in a store if you can, and keep your tags on.
