Everlane Review: Is “Radical Transparency” Still Worth Paying For?
Everlane built its name on plain basics and factory openness, but its reviews now tell a story about fees, slow fixes and thinning fabric, so we read the fine print before the hype.

The short version
- The Way-High Jean 2.0 and the cashmere crews are still the strongest reasons to shop here, and both are priced fairly for what you get.
- Mail-in returns cost $7, taken from your refund, unless you accept store credit or walk the parcel into a store or Return Bar.
- The 30-day return clock starts on the date your order ships, not the date it lands on your porch, which quietly shortens the window.
- Trustpilot reviews are overwhelmingly one-star, and most of the anger is about fulfillment, refunds and hard-to-reach support rather than the clothes.
- Standard shipping costs $8 unless a free-shipping promotion is running, and the site was running one when we checked, so read the banner first.
Beacon Score
Several good staples, sold by a company whose return fees, ship-date clock and thin support drag down an otherwise decent wardrobe brand.

The picks

The Way-High Jean 2.0 $88
The jean that made Everlane’s denim reputation, reworked with a slightly lower rise.
Version 2.0 drops the rise a touch and adds room in the seat, which Everlane pitches as a comfort fix and most reviewers on the product page agree with. Length gets steady praise, and the shorter inseam option saves many buyers a trip to the tailor. The complaints are consistent too: a gap at the back waist for some shapes, and a few say the denim feels stiff out of the box. Several reviewers advise sizing down. Narrower builds seem happiest here.
- Best for
- A straight, high-rise everyday jean under $100
- Weak spot
- Back-waist gap for curvier shapes

The Cashmere Crew $118
A plain men’s cashmere sweater priced below most department-store equivalents.
This is the sort of piece Everlane does best: a clean crew neck in a short run of neutral colors, with no logo and no gimmick. At this price it sits well under heritage knitwear labels, though Quince now undercuts it for similar basics. Expect some pilling under the arms in the first season, which is normal for cashmere at this level and fixable with a comb. Hand wash or dry clean, and fold rather than hang.
- Best for
- A first cashmere sweater for work and weekends
- Weak spot
- Undercut on price by direct rivals

The Essential Organic Crew $34
The everyday organic-cotton tee, sold in Everlane’s Uniform colorways.
A plain crew in organic cotton with a regular fit, offered in a broad spread of colors and restocked often. It is a sensible tee rather than a remarkable one. Long-running complaints across review platforms mention cotton tees shrinking or twisting after washing, so wash cold and hang dry if you want the fit to hold. A garment-dyed version was listed for less when we checked, which makes the full-price crew harder to justify.
- Best for
- Building a plain, logo-free tee rotation
- Weak spot
- Cotton can shrink or twist in a hot wash

Luxe Fleece Crew Pullover $68
A soft, heavier sweatshirt that reads smarter than a gym crew.
Everlane’s fleece line has grown into one of its broadest ranges, with joggers, hoodies, rugby polos and zip-ups built from the same fabric. The crew is the simplest of them and the easiest to wear under a coat. The price is fair against premium basics brands, though not against mass retailers. Fleece of this type pills with use, so wash inside out on a gentle cycle and keep it out of the dryer.
- Best for
- Weekend layering and travel days
- Weak spot
- Pills over time like most cotton fleece

The ReNew Transit Backpack $78
A clean commuter bag in recycled fabric that avoids the outdoor-gear look.
The ReNew line uses recycled materials, and the Transit Backpack is its main commuter bag: a padded laptop sleeve, a simple top opening and nothing that looks like a hiking pack. It suits office commutes and short trips. Bags are a weak area in Everlane’s reviews overall, with one recent Trustpilot reviewer describing a strap failure on a bag, so check stitching at the strap anchors when it arrives and act inside the 30-day window.
- Best for
- Laptop commutes with a minimalist look
- Weak spot
- Strap durability complaints on Everlane bags
What we'd pass on
EverPuff Cloud Long Puffer
At $238 this is one of the most expensive pieces in the women’s range, and it competes with outdoor brands that publish warmth details and back their jackets with real repair or warranty programs. We found no published warranty or repair program in Everlane’s policies, and a mail return costs you a fee. For a real winter, buy from a company that lives in the cold.
Baggy Barrel-Leg Jean
A trend shape at $128, which is forty dollars more than the Way-High Jean that made Everlane’s denim name. Barrel legs date fast, and fit on exaggerated cuts is harder to judge online, which matters at a brand that charges for mail returns and counts the window from the ship date. Buy the classic cut here and chase trends somewhere cheaper.
Everlane versus two rivals
Two brands a shopper is likely to be weighing at the same time. Words only; the numbers change too often to print.
| Row | Everlane | Quince | Uniqlo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Range | Denim, knitwear, tees, fleece, outerwear, shoes and a few bags | Clothing plus bedding, furniture, jewelry, luggage and much more | Huge basics range with technical layers and frequent designer collaborations |
| Price position | Mid-priced basics, above mass retail and below heritage labels | Aggressively low for cashmere, silk and linen basics | The cheapest of the three for most everyday pieces |
| Returns | Thirty days from ship date, mail returns carry a fee unless taken as credit | A full year to return unworn items, with free returns on most pieces | Thirty days from shipment, online orders returned by mail with a fee deducted |
| Standout | Way-High denim and clean cashmere crews | Very low prices on natural-fiber staples | Price, store footprint and reliable fit consistency |

What people ask about Everlane
Does Everlane charge for returns?
For mail-in returns in the US, yes. A $7 label fee is deducted from your refund. The fee is waived if you take store credit, and in-person returns at Everlane stores or participating Return Bars are free, though support and some locations issue store credit rather than a refund to your card.
How long do I have to return something to Everlane?
Thirty days for US orders, and the policy counts from the ship date rather than the delivery date. If your parcel spends a week in transit, you have about three weeks left once it arrives. Items must be unwashed with tags attached.
Do Everlane jeans run true to size?
Reviewers on the Way-High Jean 2.0 product pages are split, and a noticeable group recommends sizing down. The more common fit complaint is a gap at the back waist for curvier shapes. Check the size chart against a pair you already own before ordering.
Why are Everlane’s Trustpilot ratings so low?
Most low ratings are about the company rather than the clothes: lost or partial orders, insurance claims routed to a third party, return labels that did not generate for international buyers, and refunds that took a long time. Quality complaints exist, especially thin cotton and loose buttons, but they are the minority.
Can I return Everlane underwear?
Once. Under the First-Try policy, one underwear top or bottom can come back without its packaging. Every later underwear return must be unopened. Swimwear, bodysuits and bras are excluded, and anything bought as Final Sale cannot be returned at all.
Bottom line
Everlane still makes a handful of staples worth owning, led by the Way-High Jean 2.0 and the cashmere crews, and its prices sit comfortably between mass retail and heritage brands. The problem is the company around the clothes. Mail returns cost money, the window starts at shipment, and support reviews are grim. Buy the classics, keep your receipts, and use a store or Return Bar if you live near one.
