Osprey Review: Does the Repair-Anything Promise Still Hold in 2026?
Osprey will fix a pack from any decade for any reason, and its trail and travel packs remain the benchmark. The catch is in the fine print on repair times and what you pay to ship.

Sixty-second verdict
- The All Mighty Guarantee repairs any damage or defect for free, on packs made in any year, which is still the best promise in the category.
- Repairs take six to ten weeks by Osprey’s own estimate, and you pay to ship the pack in, so plan around a trip.
- Shipping and returns are free on regular orders, with 30 days from receipt to start a return on unused gear.
The Beacon Score
Benchmark packs and an unmatched repair guarantee, held back slightly by long repair waits and prices that rarely move.

What we'd buy from Osprey

Talon 22 $175
The day hiking pack most people should start with, with a women’s twin in the Tempest 22.
The Talon 22 and Tempest 22 cover day hikes, bike commutes and light scrambles. Osprey lists 22 liters, a load range up to 30 pounds, and a weight of about two and a quarter pounds for the Tempest. Both are sized by torso length and have extended-fit versions, which matters more than any feature list: a pack that fits is the whole point here. At $175 it costs more than most daypacks this size, and the Tempest page had only a few dozen reviews when we checked.
- Best for
- Day hikes, bike commutes, and light scrambling
- Weak spot
- Torso sizing means a wrong guess costs a return

Atmos AG 65 $370
The comfortable multi-day pack, built around a suspended mesh back.
The Atmos AG 65 uses Osprey’s AntiGravity suspension, a trampoline-style mesh back that carries weight on the hips and lets air through, and a Fit-on-the-Fly harness and hipbelt that adjust on the move. It is made from recycled materials. Osprey rates it for loads of 30 to 40 pounds and lists it at roughly four and three-quarter pounds empty, which is heavy next to ultralight packs. Buy it for comfort on a full load, not to shave ounces.
- Best for
- Backpackers carrying full loads for several days
- Weak spot
- Heavy compared with ultralight packs

Farpoint 40 Travel Pack $200
A carry-on travel pack with a real backpacking harness behind it.
The Farpoint 40 borrows from Osprey’s trail packs, with a LightWire frame and an adjustable, ventilated harness, then adds a laptop sleeve, an external toiletry pocket and easy-slide zippers. Osprey says it is sized for domestic carry-on limits, which is a careful choice of words: international and budget airlines can be stricter. It weighs a little over three pounds. The current version had only a handful of reviews on its page, so long-term reports are thin.
- Best for
- One-bag travel on domestic flights
- Weak spot
- Sized for domestic carry-on, not every airline

Daylite Expandable Travel Pack 26+6 $110
A personal-item backpack that expands when the trip home needs more room.
This is the best-reviewed pack of the group on Osprey’s site, with a couple of hundred ratings. It is sized to make the most of airline personal-item allowances, uses an AirScape back panel, and expands by six liters when you need it. At about 1.85 pounds it is light enough for daily commuting. Remember that personal-item limits vary by airline, and a fully expanded pack is far more likely to be challenged at the gate.
- Best for
- Underseat travel bag that doubles as a commuter
- Weak spot
- Expanded size may not pass as a personal item

Talon 22 VSN Backpack
The Vision Above version of the Talon 22 swaps the technical fabric for waxed canvas and custom hardware and costs $25 more than the standard Talon 22 for the same volume. It is a handsome limited-edition streetwear pack, but if you are buying Osprey for hiking, the standard Talon does the trail job better and leaves money for a hydration reservoir.

Still wondering?
What does Osprey’s All Mighty Guarantee actually cover?
Any damage or defect that affects function, whatever the cause and whenever the pack was made. If Osprey cannot repair it, it replaces it, unless you tick the option to have it returned unrepaired. It does not cover cosmetic wear, lost or stolen gear, third-party repairs, or fit and color preferences. Hydration reservoirs are handled through Hydrapak.
How long does an Osprey repair take?
Osprey currently quotes six to ten weeks, and you pay the shipping to get the pack to them, so use a tracked service. Sewing repairs are done in black thread and replacement parts may not match the original color. Clean the pack first: dirty packs are returned unrepaired, and moldy ones are destroyed.
Will Osprey refund the difference if my pack goes on sale?
Yes, within limits. If an item you bought on the Osprey site is marked down within 14 days of purchase, Osprey refunds the difference, provided the sale item is the same style, size and color. It does not price match other retailers or competitors.
Is the Farpoint 40 carry-on size?
Osprey says it is sized to meet domestic carry-on requirements. That is not the same as every airline worldwide, and budget and international carriers often use smaller limits. Check your airline’s dimensions before flying, especially if you plan to pack it full.
Where we land
Osprey still makes the packs most hikers should try first, and the All Mighty Guarantee is a genuine reason to pay its prices. Free shipping and free returns make buying direct painless. Plan around the six-to-ten-week repair window, budget for shipping a damaged pack in, and do not count on sales. The Talon or Tempest 22 and the Daylite Expandable are the easiest places to start.
