Ruggable Review: Are Washable Rugs Worth the Price in 2026?

Ruggable turned the machine-washable rug into a lifestyle brand. We read the product pages, the return terms and hundreds of owner reviews to see whether the fees and the backing complaints should put you off.

The verdict in 60 seconds

  • The one-piece Tufted All-in-One rugs are now the core of the range, and they fix the pad-alignment fiddle that annoyed owners of the original two-piece system.
  • Returns are allowed within 30 days of delivery, but a processing fee of $10, $25 or $40 comes off the refund depending on the rug’s size.
  • Every rug is made to order and the product pages quote one to two weeks to ship, so this is not a next-day purchase.
  • Recent one-star reviews cluster around fading, thin printed surfaces and pads that shed small rubbery bits after repeated washing.
  • Home washing works up to 8x10 on most lines; anything bigger may need a laundromat machine, which undercuts the whole pitch.

Clever, attractive rugs for homes with pets and kids, held back by return fees, slow made-to-order shipping and a poor public service record.

What we'd buy from Ruggable

Pick 01

Cyrus Tufted Rug Price varies by size

A best-seller on the Tufted All-in-One build, which skips the separate pad entirely.

Cyrus is a quiet beige-and-ivory pattern on Ruggable’s 7mm tufted pile, with a nonslip backing and a waterproof barrier built into the rug itself. That one-piece design is the main reason to choose Tufted over the older two-piece system: nothing to line up, nothing to peel apart. The product page rates it for medium-high traffic and says home washing works up to 8x10. It also warns against robot vacuums, which can catch the edges. Light colors show dirt between washes.

Best for
Living rooms with pets, kids and frequent spills
Weak spot
Robot vacuums are not recommended on it

Pick 02

Morris & Co. Strawberry Thief Tufted Rug Price varies by size

The best of the licensed collaborations, on the same washable tufted construction.

Ruggable’s collaborations with Morris & Co., Scalamandré and Jonathan Adler sit a step above the house designs in price, and the Strawberry Thief pattern is the one we would pay that premium for. The busy William Morris print hides crumbs and pet hair far better than a plain field, which matters on a washable rug you will not clean daily. It comes in several colorways. Owners elsewhere in the range report prints that look flatter in person than on screen, so order a swatch first.

Best for
Dining rooms and hallways that take abuse
Weak spot
Collaboration premium over near-identical house designs

Pick 03

Cove Re-Jute Rug Price varies by size

The jute look without real jute’s shedding, stiffness or water stains.

Real jute sheds and stains if you so much as spill water on it. Re-Jute is a recycled polyester cover with a polyurethane barrier that imitates the texture, and it is the one line where the classic two-piece system still makes sense. You choose a Standard Pad (one-eighth of an inch, suggested for rolling chairs and high traffic) or a Cushioned Pad. The cover goes in the washer; the pad gets hosed down and dried flat. It is indoor-only, and stain-resistant rather than waterproof.

Best for
Natural-fiber looks in kitchens and entryways
Weak spot
Two-piece setup means aligning the cover on the pad

Pick 04

Finley Plush Rug Price varies by size

The softest washable option, with pile over 14mm and no separate pad.

Plush All-in-One is Ruggable’s highest pile and the answer to the complaint that its flatweaves feel thin underfoot. Finley comes in sage, moss green, cloud grey and smoke grey, in sizes from 5x7 to 9x12. The rug washes whole on cold and dries low or on air. The brand itself steers these toward bedrooms and lower-traffic rooms, and asks you to vacuum without a beater bar. Plush prices start well above the tufted line, so this is a comfort purchase.

Best for
Bedrooms and nurseries where softness matters most
Weak spot
Pricier than tufted and meant for lower traffic

Ruggable Doormats

The doormats are a two-piece system: a heavy rubber base that is also sold on its own and a washable bristle cover that snaps on. It is a tidy idea, but a printed seasonal doormat priced like a small rug is a hard sell when plain coir mats cost a fraction as much and last outdoors for years.

Flatwoven Two-Piece System

Many tufted designs can still be ordered as a 2mm flatweave cover on a separate pad. We would not. The bulk of the pad complaints we read (Velcro wearing out, black crumbs on the floor, covers that bubble and will not sit flat) come from this setup, and the tufted version of the same pattern avoids the problem entirely.

Ruggable versus two rivals

Two brands a shopper is likely to be weighing at the same time. Words only; the numbers change too often to print.

Shipping, returns, support

Each line below was read on Ruggable's own site in October 2026. Policies move; if one has, tell us.

Shipping
Free standard FedEx shipping within the contiguous US; Alaska, Hawaii and US territories are excluded. Rugs are made to order and product pages quote one to two weeks before they ship. Express is offered on select items.
Returns window
Thirty days from delivery, through an online portal with a prepaid FedEx label. Washing and minor pet hair count as normal wear. Two-piece systems must go back with both cover and pad. Final-sale items, Spot Cleaner and swatches cannot be returned.
Return fees
A processing fee comes off each returned item: $10 for doormats, bath mats and small rugs, $25 for mid sizes such as 5x7, and $40 for 8x10 and larger. Refunds are processed within 14 business days of receipt.
Warranty
A one-year limited warranty on defects in materials and workmanship, for items bought on Ruggable.com. Claims go by email with proof of purchase and at least one photo.
Support
A contact form in the help center promises a reply within 24 hours. We found no published phone hours, and recent reviewers say reaching a live person is hard.
Loyalty program
None. The Refer a Friend program was retired in July 2026. Discounts come from a 10% sign-up offer and rotating codes such as a multi-rug bundle discount.

Right buyer, wrong buyer

Buy if you are

  • Pet owners who want to wash an accident out rather than call a cleaner
  • Families who would rather replace a pattern than live with a stain
  • Renters who want a rug that rolls up and travels well

Pass if you are

  • Anyone needing a rug larger than 8x10 washed at home
  • Shoppers who expect free returns on a rug they will want to see in person
  • Buyers who want the depth and feel of a real wool or hand-knotted rug

Still wondering?

Can every Ruggable rug go in a home washing machine?

Not every size. The tufted product pages say home washing works up to 8x10, and that larger rugs may need a commercial machine. Performance Weave rugs need several wash cycles at bigger sizes. Check the brand’s washing machine guide against your own drum before ordering a large rug.

What is the difference between All-in-One and Two-Piece?

All-in-One rugs (Tufted, Plush, Easy Care Wool and Performance Weave) have the nonslip backing built in, and you wash the whole rug. Two-Piece rugs (Flatwoven and Re-Jute) are a thin cover that attaches to a separate pad; only the cover goes in the washer, and the pad is hosed down.

Does Ruggable charge to return a rug?

Yes. The label is prepaid, but a processing fee is deducted from your refund: $10 for small items, $25 for mid sizes and $40 for 8x10 and up. Exchanges are allowed once per order within 30 days of delivery.

The bottom line

Ruggable solved a real problem: a rug you can throw in the washer after the dog or the toddler gets to it. The tufted and plush all-in-one rugs are the best version of that idea. The business around them is less appealing, with fees on every return, made-to-order waits and a support team many reviewers struggle to reach. Order a swatch, measure your washer, and buy only what you are sure you will keep.
