Solo Stove Review: Are the Smokeless Fire Pits Worth It?

Solo Stove’s stainless fire pits earn glowing on-site ratings, but the return rules, a contradictory help center and a weak Trustpilot record tell a more complicated story.

The verdict in 60 seconds

  • The Bonfire and Ranger remain the reasons to shop here, and nearly every fire pit was discounted against list when we checked.
  • Returns must be unused, unassembled and in the original packaging, so once you have burned a fire, the pit is yours.
  • Holiday orders placed from November 1 can come back until January 15, but a 15% restocking fee applies per item.
  • The help center says free standard shipping applies at $199 and, a few lines later, on all US orders, which is not reassuring.

What we'd buy from Solo Stove

Pick 01

Bonfire 19.5" Fire Pit + Stand Bundle $299.99

The model that made the brand, sized for most backyards.

Solo Stove calls the Bonfire its most popular fire pit, and the bundle carried tens of thousands of on-site reviews averaging close to five stars when we checked. It seats four to six, needs no assembly and comes with a stand that keeps heat off decks and grass. The double-wall design burns with far less smoke than an open ring once it is hot, though some owners report more smoke than the marketing suggests while it gets going. The stainless steel discolors with use.

Best for
Most backyards and patios
Weak spot
Smoky until fully hot, and the steel discolors
See it at Solo Stove
Pick 02

Ranger 15" Fire Pit + Stand Bundle $229.99

The portable pit for camping, tailgates and small patios.

The Ranger is the smallest backyard pit and the one Solo Stove pitches for camping and tailgates. It seats two or more, packs into a car trunk easily, and was heavily rated on the site. The small firebox burns through wood quickly, so expect to feed it often and to buy smaller logs, since full-size firewood will not fit well. Check campground fire rules before you pack it, as many restrict raised fire pits during dry months.

Best for
Camping trips and small balconies where fires are allowed
Weak spot
Small firebox needs constant feeding

Pick 03

Yukon 27" Fire Pit + Stand Bundle $499.99

A centerpiece fire for big patios and larger groups.

The Yukon seats six to eight and is built to stay put, which suits a large patio or garden that hosts regularly. It shares the double-wall airflow of the smaller pits, and its size means a bigger, warmer fire. It is heavy enough that moving it is a two-person job, it eats firewood quickly, and once it lives outdoors year round, you will want a cover and somewhere dry to store it through wet months.

Best for
Large patios and frequent hosting
Weak spot
Heavy, and hungry for firewood
See it at Solo Stove
Pick 04

Summit 24" Fire Pit $499.99

The newest generation, which Solo Stove says lights faster with a taller flame.

The Summit line is Solo Stove’s newest design, and the brand claims it lights three times faster with the tallest, brightest flame in the range. The 24 inch size seats five to seven. It is too new to have the review depth of the Bonfire, with a few hundred on-site ratings when we checked, so long-term durability is less proven. At list price it costs as much as a Yukon bundle, and the stand is not included in this listing.

Best for
Buyers who want the latest design and quicker lighting
Weak spot
Short track record and no stand included

Pick 05

Infinity Flame Propane Fire Pit $599.99

A propane option for places where wood fires are banned or impractical.

The Infinity Flame is Solo Stove’s propane fire pit, with an integrated tabletop and seating for five to eight. It suits neighborhoods with wood-burning restrictions and people who want a fire at the turn of a knob with no ash to clean. You give up the crackle and much of the heat of a wood fire, and propane tanks are an ongoing cost. It carried a solid but lower on-site rating than the wood-burning pits.

Best for
Wood-burning bans and low-effort evenings
Weak spot
Less heat and atmosphere than wood

Bonfire 19.5" Fire Pit + Surround Bundle

The Surround adds a tabletop ring and a barrier for kids and pets, and the bundle lists at $649.99, more than double the Bonfire and stand. Trustpilot reviewers repeatedly report rust and bubbling powder coat on the Surround, and one says rust was not covered under warranty. Until those reports fade, buy the stand bundle and keep children back the old-fashioned way.

Still wondering?

Can I return a Solo Stove after I have used it?

Generally no. The help center requires returns to be unused, unassembled and in the original packaging with a receipt, and limits returns to items bought on solostove.com or by phone. Even during the holiday window a 15% restocking fee applies, so treat a Solo Stove as a final purchase once lit.

Is Solo Stove shipping free?

The site banner and help center say free standard shipping applies at $199 and above, excluding P.O. boxes, Alaska and Hawaii, while another help answer says shipping is free on all US orders. Assume the $199 threshold applies and check the total at checkout.

Why do Solo Stove reviews differ so much between its site and Trustpilot?

Solo Stove’s own product pages showed ratings close to five stars across tens of thousands of reviews for the Bonfire bundle. Trustpilot reflects people contacting the company, often with refund delays, unanswered emails or rust on Surround tables. Product satisfaction and service satisfaction are telling different stories.

Do Solo Stove fire pits rust or discolor?

The stainless steel pits discolor with heat, which owners generally accept as normal. Rust complaints on Trustpilot focus on the powder-coated Surround accessory. Store the pit dry and covered, and photograph any problem early if you plan to file a warranty claim.

The bottom line

Solo Stove makes fire pits that are easy to love on the first night: no assembly, little smoke once hot and a tidy stainless design. The trouble is everything around them. Returns require unused, unassembled pits, holiday returns carry a restocking fee, and the help center contradicts itself on shipping. Buy the Bonfire or Ranger on sale, register the warranty right away, and skip the Surround.
