Wayfair Review: Are Its In-House Brands a Real Bargain?
Wayfair’s Sleep by Wayfair and Basics by Wayfair lines carry enormous review counts and low prices, but inflated “was” prices, return fees and delivery complaints mean you should shop it with your eyes open.

Sixty-second verdict
- The house lines are where the value is: a queen 10-inch Sleep by Wayfair mattress was $219.99 and a blackout curtain panel $13.99 when we checked.
- Ignore the crossed-out prices: a $54.99 floor mirror was shown as “was $360,” an 85 percent discount that tells you nothing useful.
- Most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund or store credit, but return shipping fees apply, and mattresses follow a separate 100-night trial.
- Trustpilot reviewers describe delayed, split and damaged deliveries plus unhelpful support, and many products ship from outside suppliers rather than Wayfair itself.
Scoring Wayfair
Cheap, well-rated house-brand basics, dragged down by misleading reference prices, return fees and a delivery and service record that reviewers rarely praise.

The picks

Sleep by Wayfair 10" Medium Memory Foam Mattress $219.99
A bed-in-a-box at a fraction of DTC mattress prices, with a 100-night trial.
The queen was $219.99 when we checked, and the listing shows about 97,000 ratings averaging 4.6, though roughly 2,500 are one-star. It is CertiPUR-US certified with a 10-year limited warranty. Read the fiberglass warning on the page: Wayfair says never to remove the cover. The 100-night trial allows one return or exchange per order and excludes open-box mattresses. Haul-away of your old bed costs extra.
- Best for
- Guest rooms, kids’ rooms and first apartments
- Weak spot
- Contains fiberglass; cover must stay on

Basics by Wayfair Non-Slip Rug Pad 1/4" $74
A thin rubber pad that stops rugs sliding, priced well below specialty brands.
The 8-by-10 size was $74 when we checked. The page shows close to 394,000 reviews, a count that appears to pool several pad styles, since reviews of a thicker plush pad sit on the same listing. Buyers praise the grip and value; one noted the pad arrived carrying the Mohawk name, a reminder that Wayfair’s house labels are often made by outside suppliers. It comes in exact sizes, so plan to trim it slightly smaller than your rug.
- Best for
- Area rugs on hardwood or tile
- Weak spot
- Exact sizing means trimming for a neat fit

Basics by Wayfair Blackout Grommet Curtain Panel $13.99
A cheap, machine-washable blackout panel with more than 28,000 reviews.
At $13.99 a panel it is hard to beat for bedrooms and nurseries, and reviewers rate it 4.6 with praise for the colors and the darkening effect. Wayfair’s own review summary is honest about the catch: lighter colors are not fully blackout and the fabric can be thin. If you need a truly dark room, choose a deep color. Open-box panels are sometimes available for less.
- Best for
- Bedrooms that need darker mornings on a budget
- Weak spot
- Light colors leak light; fabric can feel thin

Basics by Wayfair Arch Free Standing Mirror $54.99
A full-length arched mirror that leans, stands or hangs, rated 4.7.
This 16-pound glass mirror can lean against a wall or use its stand, and roughly 3,300 reviewers average 4.7, praising the look and the size for small spaces. A few mention that it wobbles when used on the stand. The “was $360” reference price shown beside the $54.99 sale price is the clearest example of Wayfair’s inflated comparisons. Judge it at $55, where it is a fair buy.
- Best for
- Bedrooms, closets and entryways
- Weak spot
- Some find it unstable on its stand

Basics by Wayfair Ergonomic High-Back Office Chair $147.99
An upholstered swivel desk chair that reviewers find comfortable and easy to build.
It was $147.99 when we checked, with about 7,900 reviews averaging 4.6, and buyers praise the comfort, looks and quick assembly. Check the specs before you commit: the weight capacity is 250 pounds and the seat cushion is three inches thick, both modest for an all-day work chair. A few hundred buyers rated it one or two stars, so read the newest of those before ordering.
- Best for
- Home offices used a few hours a day
- Weak spot
- 250-pound limit and a thin seat cushion

Mattress 5 Year Protection Plan
Wayfair offers a five-year protection plan for $37.99 at checkout on the $219.99 mattress. The mattress already carries a 10-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects such as seams separating and foam compression beyond 1.5 inches. Unless you expect stains or accidents the warranty excludes, the plan duplicates cover you already have.
Mattress Haul Away
Removing your old mattress costs $119.99 as an add-on, more than half the price of the Sleep by Wayfair queen it replaces. Many cities and waste haulers offer bulky-item pickup for less, and some charities collect usable mattresses. Check your local options before ticking the box at checkout.

What people ask about Wayfair
Does Wayfair charge for returns?
Usually, yes. Wayfair accepts most items within 30 days of delivery for a refund or store credit, and its Rewards page refers to an applicable return shipping fee. From September 9 through December 31, 2026, active Rewards members can avoid that fee on up to five eligible items if they take store credit.
Is Wayfair Rewards worth $29 a year?
If you spend more than about $580 a year at Wayfair and its sister stores, the 5% back covers the fee, and free shipping with no minimum adds to it. Rewards are deducted when you return an item, the membership auto-renews, and the fee is not refunded outside the cancellation window.
Who makes Sleep by Wayfair and Basics by Wayfair products?
These are Wayfair’s own labels, but the products are made by outside suppliers. One reviewer of the Basics rug pad said it arrived carrying the Mohawk name. Many other listings on the site are sold and shipped by partner brands, so check the product details for who ships the item.
The bottom line
Wayfair is worth using for cheap, well-reviewed house-brand basics such as curtains, rug pads and a guest-room mattress. It is a riskier place for big furniture, where return fees, split deliveries and slow support show up again and again in customer reviews. Ignore the crossed-out prices, skip the add-on protection plan, and buy bulky items only when you are confident they will not need to go back.
